DESPITE SLOWER PACE, FEEDLOT POPULATIONS STILL INCREASING

Feedlot populations in the U.S. edged higher to start March.  USDA’s Cattle on Feed report indicates that 11,796,000 head of cattle were on hand to start the month, a one-percent increase from last year.  About 1,857,000 head were placed in February, 40,000 more than a year ago, and marketings were also slightly higher at 1,683,000.  Other disappearance accounted for 66,000 head leaving feedlots last month.
