A project to replace a nearly 80-year-old bridge west of Stockton begins Thursday. The Missouri Department of Transportation says contractors will begin to clear brush and prepare the site for the new Route 32 bridge over Cedar Creek. The new bridge will sit west of the current bridge, which was built in 1930 and is showing increasing deterioration. When the $3.8 million project is completed, Route 32 will cross a bridge that is 12 feet wider than the current structure. The highway will also be straightened on the approach, requiring the roadway to be closed for two weeks sometime in the fall. Capital Paving and Construction of Jefferson City is the lead contractor and is expected to open the new span by December 1st.
